Patrick Pharris has been involved in sales, marketing, advertising, sponsorships, publicity, promotions and business development for more than 25 years. He has developed, sold and activated sponsorship and advertising programs worth more than $100-million. He has also developed, sold and implemented multi-million dollar sales programs for marketing firms that provide services and technologies to leading B2B and B2C brands and their marketing agencies. The public relations campaigns he has created and implemented for a wide range of clients have made more than six billion media impressions.
At the beginning of his career Mr. Pharris joined the ranks of the advertising industry in the San Francisco office of Foote, Cone & Belding, one of the largest advertising agencies in the world. His work on the Levi Strauss & Company, Pacific Bell, Dole Pineapple and Alaska Division of Tourism accounts led him to a position as the Vice Chairman of the San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Association Marketing Task Force and Marketing Director of The San Francisco Experience at Pier 39, San Francisco’s leading shopping, dining and entertainment complex. The consumer marketing programs Pharris created and managed markedly increased attraction revenue on Pier 39 and drove incremental sales at retail stores throughout Fisherman’s Wharf, at the time, the 14th most visited attraction in the world.
He was subsequently recruited by the Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau to become its director of publicity and promotions. In this capacity he worked closely with celebrity-Mayor Sonny Bono who quickly positioned Pharris to be a key player in the city’s destination and event marketing programs. Pharris was instrumental in the formation of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, he led the committee that brought the Miss California USA Pageant and its television broadcast rights to the City of Palm Springs, and he arranged for Gennady Gerasimov, the foreign ministry spokesman of the former Soviet Union to include Palm Springs in his “Perestroika” tour of the United States, an event for which Pharris managed all media and local government and business community relations.
As a result of his accomplishments in Palm Springs and San Francisco, Pharris was asked to join legendary Hollywood public relations firm, Mahoney Wasserman, to help lead the growth of the firms’ corporate public relations division. In this position, Pharris prospected, contracted and managed such high profile accounts as Conrad Hotels International, the City of Palm Springs, Prime Ticket Television Network, and Hyatt Hotels & Resorts of Southern California.
In 1990, Pharris co-founded Perri Pharris Productions, which according to Nielsen Media Research was one of the most successful broadcast public relations agencies in the America. In 1995, Pharris acquired full ownership of Perri Pharris Productions, renamed the company Electronic Media Communications, and expanded the agency’s services to include web development, digital collateral production, and traditional public relations. The company grew rapidly and implemented hundreds of campaigns for such well-known companies as Princess Cruises, The Walt Disney Company, General Motors, Harrah’s Entertainment, Paramount Pictures, Proctor & Gamble, Taco Bell, Michelin, Yahoo Business IBM, and the Recording Industry Association of America.
During the 90’s Pharris and his team produced dozens of broadcast events for the rapid expansion of Las Vegas including: the Grand Opening of the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino; the Grand Opening of the Stratosphere Hotel, Casino and Tower; the Grand Re-Opening of Harrah’s Las Vegas; Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden at The Mirage; the Ground Breaking and Grand Opening of Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton; the Grand Opening of The Resort at Summerlin; the CES, COMDEX and SEMA trade shows, and many of the destination’s most significant media events.
On the heels of this success Pharris was chosen to co-author an investment grade advertising revenue study for the soon-to-be-built Las Vegas Monorail. Upon completion, Pharris was invited by Solomon Smith Barney (the lead underwriters of the bond financing for the Las Vegas Monorail) and project leaders to present the advertising and sponsorship sales plan to bond raters, insurers and buyers and serve as part of the road-show team which ultimately raised $650-million to develop and operate the monorail. Upon project funding, Pharris was recruited to become the President and equity owner of Promethean Partners, a sales agency created exclusively for the development and sales of advertising and sponsorships on the Las Vegas Monorail. While working with Promethean Partners, Pharris generated advertising and sponsorship programs with an aggregate contract value of more than $80-million. Sponsors contracted by Pharris included General Motors, Sprint/Nextel, Monster Beverage Company, Sony, Paramount, Bank of Nevada, Vegas.com, and several others. During this time he also created the concept and brought to fruition the development of “General Motors: The Drive”, America’s first vehicle test track open to the public, which was connected to the monorail.
In 2007 Mr. Pharris founded Pharris Media, Inc., a marketing consultancy created to provide counsel in the areas of business development, communications strategies, media sales, sponsorships, publicity and promotions. Since its founding, Pharris Media has provided these services to a wide range of companies including: Monster Beverage Company, General Motors, Western Digital, Activision, General Growth Properties, Sunrgi Solar Energy Company, AmiciMPTS Energy Company, the National Energy Marketers Association, InnerWorkings, US Performing Arts, 3 Tier Logic, rock music acts LinkinPark, Slash, Five Finger Death Punch, and Rob Zombie, and several advertising, sales promotion, and event marketing agencies.
In 2011, Pharris Media, Inc., became an owner and managing partner of Iteration Media, LLC, a social media marketing agency that has provided services to an array of corporate and entertainment clients including: Under Armour, Monster Energy Drink, FRS Energy, Chevrolet, Three Olives Vodka, Dobel Tequila, Lola Belle Cherry Rum, Red Carpet Manicure, The Business Genome™ Project, best-selling authors from McGraw-Hill and the Hachette Book Group, rock artists Slash and Perry Farrell (front man of the band Jane’s Addiction and creator of the Lollapalooza music festivals), Paleta Foods, US Performing Arts.
In 2015, Patrick Pharris founded ReachOrb, LLC, a blogger marketing service and technology platform, and secured venture funding from Insight Ventures, LLC, a Southern California based investment group. ReachOrb is developing a proprietary technology that will automate the process of publishing brand content on target market blogs and blogger social channels. Existing clients of ReachOrb include Honda, Mini Motors America, NBC Universal, Panasonic, Sun-Maid, and several other national brands and advertising agencies.
Throughout his career Mr. Pharris has provided strategic and creative publicity and promotions counsel to various international business and governmental entities in Romania, the Principality of Monaco, England, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and throughout the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
Mr. Pharris has served as a media spokesman for Princess Cruises, the Las Vegas Monorail Company, Monster Beverage Company, Paramount Parks, Novell, the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Joint Powers Authority of the Coachella Valley, the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, Pier 39 in San Francisco, and the San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Association. He has also been a public speaker on the topics of public relations and sponsorships at The Harvard Club in New York, San Francisco State University, California State University Sacramento, California State University Long Beach, SEMA (the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association – Automotive Industry), the Business Marketing Association, and The Public Relations Society of America. He has also been on-camera talent for television specials on Group W Westinghouse Television (syndication), KESQ-TV (ABC – Palm Springs, CA), and Dimension Cable (Palm Springs, CA).
Mr. Pharris is a published author with more than 50 newspaper and magazines articles to his acclaim and his work appears in by-lined sections of two textbooks on public relations. Since 1990 more than 200 articles about Patrick Pharris and the campaigns he has created and executed for his clients have been published in newspapers (the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, etc.), advertising and public relations trade publications, and general interest magazines around the world.
Mr. Pharris has been awarded with 25 regional and national public relations and marketing industry awards including several prestigious awards from the International Association of Business Communicators and the Public Relations Society of America.
